With the arrival of Spring, the sun has returned to the balcony and, in the early afternoons, I move myself outside with my coloured pencils and sketchbook to observe and draw the slope of the valley.

In this season of renewal, everything happens very quickly: the leaves of the ash tree are new and a vibrant green, the artichokes have already all sprouted on the right side of the slope; in the distance I see patches of a vivid pink, but, if I look through the binoculars, their colour is the original — lilac. I think it must be an effect of light and distance, but I am amused by noticing it every year. The sow-thistles and the hawkweed oxtongue shine in their solar yellow.

The Albrecht Dürer pencils by Faber-Castell are my favourites for drawing and, when I make colour studies, I enjoy learning their names: Pine Green, Cinnamon, Earth Green Yellowish, Sky Blue, Naples Yellow, Burnt Umber, Purple Violet, etc.

* Com a chegada da Primavera o sol regressou à varanda e nos inícios de tarde mudo-me lá para fora com os lápis de cor e o caderno de Desenho para ver e fazer desenhos da encosta do vale.

Nesta época de renascimento tudo acontece muito rápido: as folhas do freixo são novas e de um verde vibrante, as alcachofras já despontaram todas no lado direito da encosta, ao longe vejo manchas de um rosa vivo, mas se observar com os binóculos a sua cor é a original - lilás, penso que será um efeito da luz e da distância, mas diverte-me todos os anos reparar nele. As serralhas e os raspa-saias brilham no seu amarelo solar.

Os lápis Albrecht Dürer da Faber-Castell são os meus preferidos para desenhar e quando faço estudos de cor gosto de aprender seus os nomes: Pine green, Cinnamon, Earth green yellowish, Skyblue, Naples yellow, Burnt umber, Purple violet, etc.

As part of my home-based Artistic Residency — We Breathe Together —, in addition to Seeing, listening to and drawing the slope of the valley that lives beside me, I am following a Sow-thistle, Sonchus oleraceus, which appeared this year on our window on the 5th floor.

Beyond the privilege of seeing her emerge in such an unlikely place and of speaking with her every day, I watch her grow, flower, and now scatter its seeds with the help of the wind. It has also given me encouragement and hope through its Beauty and Resilience, and reminded me that this constant circular movement of Giving and Receiving is the purpose of my artistic expression.

No âmbito da minha Residência Artística caseira - We Breath Together - para além de Ver, ouvir e desenhar a encosta do vale que vive a meu lado, estou a acompanhar uma Serralha, Sonchus olaraceus que nasceu este ano na nossa janela no 5º andar.

Para além do privilégio de a ver nascer neste lugar improvável e conversar com ela todos os dias, vê-la crescer , florescer e estar agora a espalhar as suas sementes com a ajuda do vento. Ela deu-me também alento e esperança com a sua Beleza e Resistência e lembrou-me que este constante movimento circular de Dar e Receber é o propósito da minha expressão artistíca.

Every morning in March, the carrion crows (Corvus corone) cast their calls into the air and, in the afternoon, the blackbird sings perched in the Ash beside the window.

Todas as manhãs de Março as gralhas pretas (Corvus corone) lançaram no ar os seus chamamentos e a tarde o merlo canta pousado no Freixo ao lado da janela.

The Quiet Place is my drawing table, my creative corner inside my room in a 5th floor with a view to a valley. Sometimes this Quiet Place is also outside in the valley and surroundings. This is a beginning for me and I’m inviting you to come along - every months I will send you my drawings 🎨🐦‍⬛📮🌳 and bring you to my practices. If you know me, you know that my conversations are quiet and always born from images, this is a space where you can support me and where I hope to support and inspire you with my art.

Quiet Place é a minha mesa de desenho, o meu canto criativo dentro do meu quarto, no 5º andar, com vista para um vale. Às vezes, este Quiet Place também fica lá fora, no vale e arredores.
